KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (Calendar Determination Committee), under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, has formed a group to monitor and take action against those who publish calendars without permission from the Samiti.

The panel members are Basudev Krishna Shastri, Murari Raj Pandey and Khilhari Ghimire.

The panel was tasked with monitoring and recommending to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Ministry of the Interior to take action against those who publish calendars without permission.

The Samiti has given approval to release more than 100 wall calendars and 14 paatro (calendar) for 2079 BS, said Samiti executive director Surya Prasad Dhungel.

Wall and paatro calendars must mention their approval by the Samiti. This provision follows complaints that wall calendars and paatros created confusion and problems regarding festivals and holidays.

In response to this, a Cabinet meeting on January 4, 2021 provided that he must obtain approval from the Samiti to publish wall and paatro calendars.
