School board makes changes to current and next year school calendars

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education has officially approved a 2022-2023 school year schedule that sees classes start for students on the Monday before Labor Day and end on June 16, 2023.

The schedule, approved at the January 5, 2022 board meeting, calls for the first day of class to be Monday, August 29, 2022. It also restores two full days of parent-teacher conferences at the start of Thanksgiving week, with two partial days of parent-teacher conferences in March.

The calendar maintains the traditional Easter / Spring holiday week and calls for all schools and offices to be closed during the events of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Eid al-Fitr. As has been the case for many years, the 2022-2023 schedule also contains four days of early layoff to allow staff to focus on fairness and the opportunity gap.

Three days are scheduled in the calendar for closures in the event of inclement weather.

EVOLUTION OF THE SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR 2021-2022

Also at its January 5 meeting, the board adjusted the schedule for the current school year to provide a system-wide closure on May 3, 2022. This day had previously been designated as a professional development day during which there were no lessons for the students.

Both calendars are available on www.aacps.org/calendar.
