The Hometown Hero banner program is back

March 6-NORWALK – The Hometown Hero Banner Program provides the opportunity for a member of the public to purchase a banner to recognize Norwalk servicemen and women and their families who serve, have served or gave their lives to our country in United States Army Forces.

Last year’s program was so successful and loved by all that the city launched the 2022 Hometown Hero Banner Program and is currently accepting applications.

Applications and eligibility criteria are available on the city’s website www.norwalkoh.comthe town’s Facebook page or can be picked up at Norwalk Town Hall.

To be eligible for the 2022 program, the hero must meet the following conditions:

—Resides or has lived in the city of Norwalk at some point in his life.

– Currently serving or served in the United States Armed Forces.

— Meets one of the following criteria: honorably discharged veteran; death in the line of duty; current active service.

—May be required to provide proof of discharge verification.

This year only 133 banner positions will be available. Applications will be processed and pole positions will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until all pole positions are allocated. The first 75 pole positions will be awarded to first-year applicants.

The registration deadline is March 31 at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $79 for each banner.

If your hero was honored in 2021 and you wish to participate in the 2022 program using an existing banner, the cost is $45. The $45 will be used to purchase new material for the banner. The application must be accompanied by the existing banner in satisfactory condition.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave service members and their loved ones who sacrifice to serve or who have served our county,” Norwalk Mayor Dave Light said. “It is of extreme importance to all of us to recognize our hometown heroes. We will proudly show our patriotism by lining our streets with banners.”
